Caravaggio | Revolution: Baroque Masterpieces from the Roberto Longhi Foundation will be the first exhibition in North Carolina this century to feature works by the 17th-century revolutionary Italian artist, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.
This exhibition will explore a number of themes, some familiar and some new to our audience, but throughout the exhibition Caravaggio’s impact—his revolution—will be linked to issues and cultural landmarks familiar with today’s audience. Featuring more than 40 masterpieces from Florence’s world-renowned Roberto Longhi Foundation, this exhibition brings together works rarely seen in the United States — including Caravaggio’s Boy Bitten by a Lizard from the Longhi Foundation — presented alongside works by the artists he influenced in his time and across centuries.
